PORT DICKSON: The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) will celebrate the National Environment Day 2017 at d'Tempat Country Club, in Sendayan, Seremban on Saturday.
Its Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Hamim Samuri said the day, themed "Environment - Our Shared Responsibility", would also be celebrated simultaneously in every state throughout the country.
"Various interesting activities will be held on that day, including the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) Dialogue with representatives from the state government, which will serve as the platform to exchange views on environmental issues in shaping the future of our country as a developed nation.
"We are still maintaining last year's theme as it is still relevant to instill environmental responsibility among Malaysians," he told the media after the pre-launch of the National Environment Day 2017 here today.
Asked about the level of awareness of the people in preserving the environment, Hamim said the efforts implemented by the government thus far have begun to show the result with more environmental issues having being raised by the public.

"For example, complaints received from the public related to open burning or garbage disposal give an indication that the community is becoming more aware, responsible and more concerned about the impact of such problems on the environment.
"Most importantly, we have come to realise that any pollution on the environment will have a direct impact on our own lives such as water pollution causing us to suffer from water disruption," he said.
This year's environment day celebration also marked the 26th anniversary of the Langkawi Declaration on the Environment, signed and issued on Oct 21 in 1989. — Bernama
