KUCHING: The Sarawak government is planning to develop a new 42.5ha area in Kampung Sungai Bedaun, about 15km from here, especially for three villages around the banks of Sarawak River.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said 300 residential lots would be provided to the low-income residents from Kampung Panglima Seman Lama, Kampung Semarang and Kampung Pulo Ulu.
He said the state government would refer to the Rural and Regional Development Ministry to develop about 200 houses in Kampung Sungai Bedaun with the new model of affordable houses.
"The ministry will build the houses only, while others like land, utilities and infrastructures will be covered by the state government. The area will be a new modern village for the low-income group equipped with structured house buildings," he told reporters after visiting the project site area, here today.
Also joining the visit were Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who is also Santubong Member of Parliament, and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob.

Meanwhile, Land Custody and Development Authority (PELITA) general manager Datu Sajeli Kipli said the three villages were among 12 villages and two locations along the Sarawak River banks, near to the city being identified by the state government for the development project under the Darul Hana masterplan.
He said the state government would build comfortable and modern affordable houses to the residents especially the lower-income group, in close proximity to the Darul Hada masterplan area.
"Just now I heard the Minister of Rural and Regional Development (Ismail Sabri) said the Kampung Sungai Bedaun area is seen as a high class because of its location against the beautiful background of Mount Santubong," he added. — Bernama
