LANGKAWI: Langkawi will be the location for a new reality television show as well as the semifinal of the Miss Tourism International 2017 beauty pageant.
According to Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) chief executive officer Datuk Azizan Noordin, the reality show entitled, "Differences Aside", is to be produced by international cable television network, CNN, in collaboration with Travel Leisure Channel (TLC).
"This reality show will be something unique where there will be nine participants who come here from other parts of the world to try the (tourism) activities that we have in Langkawi," he told reporters at an engagement dinner with tourism players here last night.
The participants would be from North America, United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, China, Japan, India, United Arab Emirates, Australia and Malaysia.
Azizan said the participants and production crew would remain on the island from Nov 4 till Nov 19, and several attractive locations would be selected for the filming of the show, which is expected to be aired between Nov this year and January 2018.

"It is one of a kind show that adopts a treasure-hunt kind of activities and having Langkawi as the background for the show will promote it further as an island destination," he said.
Meanwhile, he said LADA was eyeing to set another new Malaysian record this year in conjunction with the 20th edition of the Miss Tourism International from Nov 30 till Dec 2.
"We are looking at creating a new record for a catwalk held at the highest altitude this year after successfully setting two Malaysian records, each for the performance of Silat and Tai Chi at the highest altitude, last year," he said.
He said 60 contestants would be taking part in the beauty pageant and a special title, Langkawi Tourism Ambasadress 2017, would be awarded to the best participant in the activities organised here.
"Each of the participants would have a large number of followers and this (beauty pageant) would expose Langkawi to not less than one billion viewers around the world," he added. — Bernama
