TAKING place Oct 18–22, 2017, this year's edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event features an exciting lineup including Underworld, Philip Glass, Lady Starlight and Nina Kraviz among others, as well as a world film premiere from Avicii.
Considered the "leading electronic music platform and the biggest club festival in the world," the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) attracts over 375,000 visitors to its annual conference and festival. Founded in 1995 with just 30 acts, the event now boasts around 2,500 artists performing in and around Netherlands' largest city over five days.
Highlights from this year's lineup include the electronic dance duo Underworld headlining at the festival's Audio Obscura event; 80–year–old musical legend Philip Glass giving a keynote speech and performing live alongside the Amstel Saxophone Quartet; American DJ and performance artist Lady Starlight, who has supported Lady Gaga on tour multiple times; and Russian DJ and singer Nina Kraviz.
New talents to look out for include Youngr, an electronic pop musician from London; Phlake, an up–and–coming band who have already achieved a handful of hit singles; the Scottish duo Bicep; and the teenage progressive music artist Alan Walker from Norway.
During the day, the Amsterdam Dance Event runs a series of conferences, programs and movie screenings. This year, one of the most talked–about scheduled films is the world premiere of "Avicii: True Stories," the story behind the success of Swedish DJ Tim Bergling, aka Avicii, one of the most successful DJs in the world. "Avicii: True Stories", by director Levan Tsikurishvili, will premiere at ADE on Oct 20.
The Amsterdam Dance Event has also chosen to showcase Asian music with four separate events featuring music from Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. Morocco will also be the subject of a special feature in this year's ADE Global View program. — AFP
