Viral video-starring alleged animal abuser charged

PETALING JAYA: The animal abuse case involving a dog named Furby will be mentioned at the magistrate's court on Nov 27.
Prosecuting officer Mohd Faiz Ajiz told theSun that the case is still in the submission stage for documents, and the trial dates have not yet been decided.
Furby, a brown and white male mongrel guard dog, became known to Malaysians when a video of a man hitting the dog went viral on social media in April, causing outrage among animal lovers and the wider online community.
Singaporean businessman Yee Kok Chew, 57, also known as Terry Yee, was charged with animal abuse under Section 44(1)(a) of the Animal Act 1953 read together with the Animal Act (Amendment 2013).
The charge brings a fine of not more than RM50,000, or a one-year prison term, or both.
Yee, who was caught on camera hitting Furby at a residential area in Puchong at about 8.49pm on April 2, had claimed trial to hitting, abusing, and causing pain and suffering to the dog.
He was represented by lawyer Joshua Andran.
