Najib unveils concept design of Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail stations

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today unveiled the concept design of all seven Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) stations in Malaysia.
Najib said the design of each station is conceptualised to reflect not only the nation's culture and identity on each of the station's corridor but also demonstrate the growth vision that KL-SG HSR would bring.
"This iconic development will be a true game changer for the country and will have a range of positive knock-on benefits for the rakyat, right from the start of its construction.
"It is a infra-rakyat project that was conceived not only to provide an alternative travel mode between two of Southeast Asia's most vibrant economic engines, but more importantly it is a core enabler of the Economic Transformation Program whose vision is to transform Malaysia into a high income nation," Najib said during the ceremony held at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) here.
Also present was Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Najib said the design took the approach of a Malaysian journey (MyJourney) that touches on several themes, namely MyGateway, MyPeople, MyVision, MyHeritage, MyFuture, MyCulture and MyEncounter.
The Bandar Malaysia station, which is the first stop of MY-SG HSR will have a re-interpretation of the confluence of Klang and Gombak rivers, which symbolises wisdom and unity of the people.
The Bangi-Putrajaya station design embraces the influence of majestic yet intricate details of Islamic architecture, while the Seremban station is inspired by the grandeur of the royal place of Sri Menanti and the lush tropical greenery of the Malaysian Vision Valley.
The station in Ayer Keroh, Malacca was designed from the image of a merchant ship which symbolises the entrepreneurship spirit of local communities.
The Muar station is inspired by the "rehal" which is traditionally used to place the holy Quran as students learn to recite it, thus symbolising the importance of learning.
The Batu Pahat station is inspired by the "kuda kepang" which aims to strike a balance between heritage and modernisation.
The final station in Malaysia which is the Iskandar Puteri station is inspired by the representation of a handshake, signifying Iskandar Puteri's role as a regional city for commerce and international encounters.
"Additionally, the land acquisition for the project has also commenced, starting with Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act 1960," he said.
Najib added myHSR Corp is currently submitting its application to the relevant government authorities for land freezing purposes.
The KL-SG HSR deal was signed between Malaysia and Singapore in December last year.
The service is targeted to be completed by 2026 and will cut travel time between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to just 90 minutes.
The route totals 350km in Malaysia and 15km in Singapore, ending at Jurong East station.
