Ringgit lower at opening

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened lower against a rejuvenated US dollar in early trading today on lack of demand, dealers said.
At 9.15am, the local unit stood at 4.2220/2240 against the greenback from Monday's close of 4.2155/2185.
A dealer said investors were waiting for more clues on the market's direction.
"The players may opt to lock in profits following the ringgit's surge yesterday as the local foreign exchange market will be closed tomorrow for the Deepavali holiday.
Meanwhile, the ringgit was higher against most other major currencies except with the euro.
It appreciated against the yen to 3.7623/7644 from Monday's 3.7699/7729 and rose slightly against the Singapore dollar to 3.1170/1194 from 3.1171/1197 yesterday.
The local unit improved against the British pound to 5.5937/5972 from 5.6054/6098 on Monday. It depreciated against the euro to 4.9739/9780 from 4.9692/9745 previously. — Bernama
