THE 8th International Green tech & Eco Products Exhibition& Conference Malaysia (Igem 2017) and International Urban Sustainability&Green Building Conference 2017 (IUSGBC) ended on a high note. While Igem proved a hit with exhibitors and trade visitors surpassing the RM1.6 billion business lead target, the IUSGBC talks and round table sessions delivered by 24 speakers to an audience of 258, sparked greater awareness and opened many new and exciting doors.
THE GREEN LIGHT
Igem, Asean’s largest green technology business and innovation platform, played host to the high-level conferences, which included the Igem 2017 Conference – IUSGBC, organised by Malaysia Green Building Confederation (MGBC), an established member of the World Green Building Council.
During the course of the exhibition and conference, 15 MoUs were signed involving partnerships with Petronas Dagangan, Tenaga Nasional Berhad Energy Services, Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, BSL Eco Energy, the Sustainable Energy Development Authority and others.
“I am glad to see that this year’s Igem has taken another great stride in that direction with excellent participation and enlightening discussions, laying the foundation for Malaysia to become a Top 20 nation in economic development, social advancement and innovation, as per the TN50 aspirations,” said Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry (KeTTHA) deputy secretary-general Datin Badriyah Abd Malek.
TO GREENER DAYS
A major highlight at this year’s Igem was the unveiling of the Green Technology Master Plan (GTMP) by KeTTHA Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili. The GTMP lays the foundation for a wholesome and holistic shift in Malaysia’s approach to economic development and includes investments in sustainability. The success of Igem 2017 saw the organisers, together with KeTTHA and co-organiser Malaysia Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia), host an appreciation high tea attended by some 500 guests.
With all the sharing of “green” knowledge and technology that saw a hive of activity at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysians can expect more sustainable socio-economic developments and changes as the country moves the sustainability agenda into higher gear.
