Motorcycle theft gang busted in Permatang Pauh

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The police busted a motorcycle gang after arresting four men in a raid on a house in Permatang Pauh here, early today.
Seberang Prai Centre district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said acting on intelligence gathered over the past week, the police raided the house at 4am, and detained the four suspects aged 24 to 33.
"An inspection found that the four men were involved in stealing motorcycles around the SPT area over the past few months, and their modus operandi was stealing them (motorcycles) from shopping malls.
"Then they kept the stolen motorcycles at the house which was raided before selling them to customers or dismantling the components and selling them to the mat rempit," he said here, today.
He said the police had seized a motorcycle that had been disassembled at the house, besides several stealing equipment, including three modified Allen keys, and a spanner.
Nik Ros Azhan said the four men had also turned the rented home into a drug den, and police also seized syabu from the premises.
He said all of them tested positive for drugs, while three of them had past drug-related and criminal records.
Meanwhile, in another development, he said a 52-year-old man wanted by the police since 2008 was arrested at Jalan Bukit Teh, Machang Bubok here at 6pm yesterday.
"A team of policemen who were conducting a crime prevention patrol stopped the man riding a motorcycle in a suspicious manner, and an inspection found RM2,000 worth of heroin and syabu in his bag," he said.
He said checks also revealed that the man had been wanted by the police since 2008 for vehicle theft, and he was remanded for five days to assist with investigations. — Bernama
