Police want report on death of Mahmud Ahmad in Marawi City

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will seek information from Philippines security forces on the reported death of Malaysia-born militant Mahmud Ahmad in Marawi City, southern Philippines, last night.
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the police could not verify the report before obtaining detailed information on the identity of the militant killed in a military operation.
"We (PDRM) will be in touch with Philippines security forces to get detailed information on Mahmud Ahmad's reported death in Marawi City," he told Bernama, here today.
An international news agency today quoted the Philippines military as saying that Mahmud was believed killed in a gun battle which also killed 13 other militants.
The report said Mahmud, a former university lecturer, played an important role in financing the militant movement in Marawi City where they were holed up for five months. — Bernama
