TAPAH: Thirty six drivers of heavy vehicles were issued summonses for speeding in an operation by the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) on the North-South Expressway last night.
JSPT North Zone Expressway Staff Officer ASP Hazil Reza Ghazali said the operation was held as a reminder for drivers of commercial vehicles to comply with road regulations.
"There are still many drivers of commercial vehicles, especial bus and lorry, who ignored the speed limit, as well as their employers who do not take the matter seriously," he told reporters after the operation at the Tapah Rest & Recreation Area early today.
The operation, conducted at four locations, began at 11pm yesterday and ended at 2am today.
It involved 30 personnel from JSPT and the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) Hazil Reza said of the 36 summonses issued for speeding, 22 involved lorry drivers, with the remaining bus drivers, for driving at a speed of between 100kph and 120kph, which exceeded the speed limit of 80kph-90kph.
Sixteen of the vehicles were also issued summons by SPAD, he said. — Bernama
