Authorities should look at M'sia young football talents: McMahon

KOTA BARU: The authorities should pay attention to the young local talents in football and give them the opportunity to improve their skills, said Liverpool and Machester City former midfielder Steve Mcmahon.
McMahon, who conducted the Million Dollar Feet programme in the search for young talents in football for the past two years, said during his journey, he had met many talented kids who had the passion for the sport.
"They have passion, spirit, willingness in playing football but unfortunately, they lack support in terms of opportunities, infrastructures, and exposure to keep playing.
"They are willing to work hard to become international players," he told reporters after conducting The Young Talent Search for Million Dollar Feet Programme here, today.
McMahon said 800 participants aged between 11 and 16 were trying their luck during the two-day selection starting from today to find two best players to train in the United Kingdom for 10 days starting from Nov 11 to Dec 1.

"There were also several scouting teams that will join two chosen players during their training in the United Kingdom and if they are satisfied with their performance, the club will sign contracts with them," he added.
McMahon said the selection had been held in Penang, Sarawak, and Kelantan, and they would continue their search in Johor on Oct 27 to 28 and Kuala Lumpur (Nov 3 to 4).
"We will select two best players in each state and they will compete in the final round in Kuala Lumpur before starting their training in the United Kingdom," he said. — Bernama
