Khairy wants Malaysian youths to share TN50 with ASEAN, Japanese youths

PUTRAJAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin wants the 29 Malaysian youth ambassadors participating in the Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme (SSEAYP) to share the 2050 National Transformation with participants from other countries.
He said only Malaysia had the TN50 which provided youths the opportunity to design the country's future.
"This is something good for us to share with other participants and perhaps, it will make them think that Malaysia provides opportunities for the young people.
"Youths do not only express their aspirations, but it will be the country's direction for next 30 years," he told a media conference on the 44th SSEAYP here today.
SSYEAP is a programme hosted and sponsored by the Japanese government, which is sending 350 youths from 10 ASEAN countries and Japan for a two-month programme on a ship sailing across Japanese and the Southeast Asian waters.
Khairy said Malaysia would also be hosting all the SSEAYP participants when the vessel, Nippon Maru, docked at Port Klang, Selangor, from Nov 30 to Dec 3.
He said SSEAYP, which began in 1974, aimed to promote friendship and mutual understanding between youths in Southeast Asian and Japan and strengthen their spirit of international cooperation, while contributing to the society, especially in youth development.
To date, Khairy said more than 1,000 Malaysian youths had joined SSEAYP and all of them came home with a deeper perspective of their foreign peers and understanding of other cultures outside their homes. — Bernama
