Suspected drug trafficker detained after car chase

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police detained a suspected drug trafficker after about a five km car chase at Blok M Taman Tun Hussein Onn here today.
Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the suspect, with an accomplice, were in a Honda Jazz car when police stopped the car during a crime prevention patrol in the Taman Hussein Onn residential area at about 7.1 pm .
"However, when the police approached the car, the driver stepped on the accelerator and sped away, resulting in the police to give chase for about five km before the car skidded in Kampung Bagan Serai near here.
"The passenger in the car managed to escape, but the police were able to apprehend the driver, aged 31 and from Jitra, Kedah," he told Bernama here today.
He said police searched the car and found syabu, worth more than RM15,000.
The suspect has seven previous records, including for crime and drug-related offences.
"Police seized the car and are looking for the other suspect," he said. — Bernama
