KOTA KINABALU: The remand for Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal who was detained to assist investigations on rural project fund embezzlement in Sabah has been extended by two days starting today.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus issued the order on the younger brother of the former federal minister and currently Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal at the Kota Kinabalu magistrate's court here after his remand expired today.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer Mohd Faliq Basiruddin when met by reporters after the extended remand order was issued by the court said MACC had applied for the remand on Mohd Yusof to be extended by seven days but the court only allowed two days.
Mohd Yusof, 57, was one of nine individuals detained by MACC to assist investigations over the misappropriation of rural project funds amounting to RM180 million which was part of the RM1.5 billion embezzled from a federal ministry.
He was investigated under Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009.

The RM1.5 billion fund was part of the federal government's allocation through a ministry totalling RM7.5 billion for rural projects in Sabah from 2009 to 2015.
In a related development, Mohd Faliq said Mohd Shafie was presently not in MACC lockup but was still at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (HQE) 2 for treatment.
"For the time being, I think he is still in hospital for treatment. If he is fit to be put in the lockup, we will do so. Whatever it is, we will wait for the report from the hospital.
Mohd Shafie was admitted to HQE 2 on Thursday night for high blood pressure before being brought to the Magistrate Court on Friday to obtain a remand order. — Bernama
