KUALA TERENGGANU: A total RM20 million has been collected by the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) Endowment (Wakaf) Programme from financial institutions and individuals in the country since it was launched in Aug last year.
UniSZA vice chancellor, Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Zubaidi Abdul Latiff said UniSZA expected the amount to go up following the high awareness of the financial institutions concerned towards UniSZA's programme which also received the co-operation of the Terengganu Malay Customs and Islamic Religious Council.
"In the past, not many wanted to contribute because they could not see the results of their donations. Currently, we make the endowment system more dynamic by adjusting it to the situation to lure the interests of those who want to participate.
"With financial institutions, we stress on them endowment in the form of commitment, namely, the giving of endowment for the long term. In this manner, their contributions can generate income for the university and we return it to the students and society," he said.
He said this to reporters after a Banquet In Conjunction With UniSZA's convocation here last night which was attended by the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin and the Sultanah of Terengganu, Sultanah Nur Zahirah. — Bernama
