Selangor scouts for under-12 football talents with SGL

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Grassroots League (SGL) 2017 has been held for the first time to unearth football talents under 12 years old in Selangor.
Tournament director, Johan Kamal Hamidon said the primary objective of the championship inspired by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah was to polish talented youngsters to attain higher levels of football skills.
"The championship was inspired and founded by the Raja Muda of Selangor to expose young Selangor footballers to play in league format.
"The programme hopes to attract more children to football and to instill a healthier lifestyle among children," he told reporters after the tournament final at the State Secretariat (SUK) field in Section 5 here today.
Earlier, Tengku Amir Shah witnessed the final match and gave away the prizes.
Johan Kamal said 20 teams managed by individuals and private companies from all over Selangor joined the championship.
"PKNS FC player Safee Sali who was also formerly in the national squad made a special appearance to meet his young fans.
"PKNS FC management is also considering taking in talented teenagers into its academy as PKNS FC junior players in future," he said.
In the final, MBSA Senior FC became the inaugural champion after edging Putrakids FC 1-0 and won the revolving trophy and RM2,000 cash prize. — Bernama
