KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor government will be introducing two new schemes next month, aimed at empowering the youth and women in the state.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (pix) explained that based on the statistics they obtained, there is an urgent need for the state government to address the unemployment rate among the youth.
"According to the figure, the rate has increased to a subtantial amount – three times higher than the national figure for the unemployment rate.
"Hence, the state government have to step in to address the issue by ensuring the youth will be provided with the proper skill and talent meeting the industry and market demand," Azmin told reporters after handing out aid to some 66 individuals and non-profit organisations in the Gombak and Bukit Antarabangsa constituent.
He said that the state believes women play an important role in state development, and that the state will empower them in term of economic skill and education opportunity.
Asked the difference between the two schemes with those previously implemented or currently ongoing, Azmin said it would be in term of the implementation.
"Everyone can announce big and good policies but at the end of the day it is still about the execution of those policies.
"If you look at the state's track record, all the policies or schemes announcement we made were able to execute successfully," he explained.
Azmin further stressed that the state doesn't announce things not within their capability.
On the state budget issue, Azmin said for the upcoming budget the state government is looking into further increasing its developmental budget to 53%.
"This is what we are planning to present but we are still in discussion phase, the finalised figure will be revealed on Nov 3," he added.
Azmin added that among the focus areas for the budget will be infrastructure, education, training programme and empowering the female group.
