TTI spends RM700,000 to restore monuments since 2014
KUALA TERENGGANU: A sum of RM700,000 has been utilised to maintain and repair eight monuments at Islamic Civilisation Park (TTI) in Pulau Wan Man here since 2014.
TTI Management Sdn Bhd Consultation and Innovation senior manager, Khalizan Mahmud said the funds were collected from business units at TTI.
"Maintenance and repair works were carried out to ensure each monument was in its original state while its structure and glitter remained attractive to visitors.
"Besides the age factor of the almost 10-year-old monuments, restoration is also required for the weather-beaten structures as well as damage caused by overenthusiastic visitors who came to take pictures, " he told Bernama here.
There are 22 monuments selected from 21 countries in the tourist centre where the structures were chosen based the uniqueness in their architecture, history, and influence on Islamic developments around the world.
Khalizan said his company had submitted an application to the state government to seek provisions for the maintenance and reconstruction of the remaining 14 monuments.
"We hope the allocation will be provided under Budget 2018 for maintenance works to commence early next year.
"As every monument here has been built in great detail using quality materials, the restoration must also be meticulously done," he said.
Since its opening in 2008, the park has received over 7.2 million tourists. — Bernama
