AmBank founder's death: Oct 27 for decision on car repossessor charged with murder

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today fixed Oct 27 to decide on a case of a car re-possessor charged with murdering Arab-Malaysian Banking (AmBank) Group founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi (pix), and also with attempting to murder the banker's wife four years ago.
Judicial Commissioner Datuk Ab Karim Ab Rahman set the date after hearing submissions by both parties at the end of the defence case.
The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, while lawyer Datuk Michael K.L Chee represented Koong Swee Kwan, 48.
Koong was charged with murdering Hussain, 75, at the car park of the Kuan Yin Temple at No.4 Lorong Ceylon, here between 1.30pm and 2pm on July 29, 2013.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
He was also charged under Section 307 (1) of the Penal Code with attempting to murder Hussain's wife, Cheong Mei Kuen, 50, at the same place and time and faced an imprisonment for up to 20 years, if found guilty.
On Dec 14 last year, the Federal Court's five-man bench chaired by then Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin set aside Koong's conviction and death sentence for Hussain's murder and ordered his case to go for a retrial.
Koong was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Sept 5, 2014, for killing Hussain and also sentenced to 18 years jail for attempting to murder Hussain's wife. — Bernama
