Cock-fighting gambling with bets up to RM20k crippled

KUALA KANGSAR: Bets from RM1,000 to RM20,000 are placed in a gambling activity involving cock-fighting which was crippled in an operation near here yesterday.
Taiping District Police chief ACP Ahmad Termizi Abd Haq said 14 men, aged between 30 to 60 years, including an Indonesian national, were detained in Op Sabung in an oil palm plantation in Kampung Kolam at 4.30pm.
In addition, he said police also seized cash totalling RM19,000, 12 fighting-cocks and gambling equipment in the operation conducted by a team of four officers and 24 policemen.
"The police found that four types of gambling games were held there, namely, 'judi laga ayam', 'bola golek', 'Tai Sai' and "belangkas'," he said.
"At least 50 people were engrossed in gambling during the raid but they managed to escape into the nearby jungle," he told a media conference here today. — Bernama
