Nationwide programme raises awareness on child sexual crimes

KUANTAN: The Children's Sexual Crime Awareness Programme; Stop !! organised by the Information Department which was held nationwide managed to raise public awareness on the problem which has started spreading in the country.
Pahang Information Department director, Datuk Sabri Abdullah said that from July till the end of the year, 30 such programmes had been and would be implemented nationwide in an effort to provide an understanding on the matter to the people.
"The programme will be held as many as two times in each state and for Pahang, we are having it for the first time here today in collaboration with the Police and Social Welfare Department.
"The programme comprised lectures, a joint programme with the 1Malaysia Community and publishing of special brochures," he told reporters after the launch of the programme by Pahang Rural Development, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman Datuk Shafik Fauzan Sharif here, today.
He said based on police statistics, 1,631 rape cases, 256 incest cases, 844 cases of molestation and 279 cases of unnatural sex have occurred nationwide involving victims under 18, for the years 2016 and 2017. — Bernama
