Shafie's remand extended for 4 days

KOTA KINABALU: The remand on former Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal to facilitate investigations into alleged misappropriation of RM1.5 billion of federal rural development funds meant for Sabah, has been extended for four days.
The extension, on the application of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officers Rustam Anip, Rozanna Abdul Hadi and Faliq Basiruddin was granted by magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus.
Earlier at the High Court, justice Ismail Brahim rejected Shafie's application for his remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, to be reviewed.
Rustam in his submission said MACC had the same jurisdiction as the police to invoke Section 117 and detain Shafie to complete its investigations.
Mohd Shafie who is also Semporna member of parliament, and Parti Warisan Sabah ( Warisan) president, was detained at the MACC office on Oct 19 around 9pm when he came to give his statement.
He was remanded for three days from Oct 20. — Bernama
