Sri Damansara Link will ease traffic congestion in the city: Works Minister (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: The opening of the elevated Sri Damansara Link (SDL) interchange will help ease traffic congestion in the city, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
He said 30,000 cars are expected to use the link and they can access it via Duta Ulu Kelang Expressway (Duke 2).
He pointed out that it will ease congestion at the intersection of the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) and the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong.
He said SDL will provide an alternative route for those heading towards congested areas like the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Sri Damansara, Rawang, Kepong and Sungai Buloh.
He added that the SDL connects to the MRR2 at the Bandar Manjalara Interchange and the existing Duke in Jalan Segambut.
"This project has showcased the ability of local contractors to carry out complex jobs.
"We can compete with anyone in the world," he said at a press conference after launching the Sri Damansara Link today.
He added that the link will be a boon for residents living around Kepong, Segambut and Sungai Buloh.
Fadillah praised the forward thinking of Konsortium Lebuhraya Utara-Timur (KL) Sdn Bhd (Kesturi), the concession holder of Duke 2, when building the Segambut Rest and Services Area (Segar) which features a double-storey, park-and-ride facility that will connect to a newly built KTM Komuter station.
He said they have used the area below the link as a car park which has 300 bays but it can be expanded to cater for 4,000 bays.
He added that this will give residents in the area the option of using KTM Komuter service once the new station is open.
The SDL was opened to the public from midnight yesterday.
It will be free for one month and this is applicable at the Segambut Toll Plaza until Nov 22.
The link is the final phase for the Duke 2 highway that includes the Tun Razak Link that was opened to the public on Sept 28.
