Sultan Johor visits Kampung Parit Bugis

MUAR: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar visited Kampung Parit Bugis, Sungai Balang here today.
Arriving in an official vehicle at about 10.20am and accompanied by Muar district officer, Mohd Noorazam Osman, the Sultan was greeted by more than 300 local residents.
As a caring Ruler, Sultan Ibrahim also spent about an hour having breakfast and mingling with villagers.
He also witnessed a Reog presentation and visited an exhibition on the history of Kampung Parit Bugis especially on the origin of the village and the background of early settlers in the village.
Also present were Sungai Balang assemblyman Zaiton Ismail and Muar Umno deputy division head Datuk Ashari Sarip.
Before returning, he also visited the house of Kampung Parit Bugis village head Saifudin Mohd Kadak which had been converted into a homestay.
The village comprised 12 settlements namely Parit Masjid, Parit Gantong, Kampung Melayu, Parit Begelen, Simpang Sekolah, Parit Bugis, Parit number 1 to 5 and Sungai Balang Kecil.
The area was opened in 1909 by the Bugis headed by Daeng Saribut and Daeng Abu Bakar who cultivated rubber. — Bernama
