Teen girl kicks granduncle to escape attempted rape

SIBU: A 13-year-old girl escaped an attempted rape by bravely kicking the suspect, who is believed to be her granduncle, in the incident at her home in Sungai Bidut here yesterday.
Shocked and hurt by the kick, the 55-year-old man, quickly fled the scene.
"The attempted rape occurred after the suspect came to the victim's house while her mother was not home.
He then entered the girl's room and locked the door," Sibu Police chief ACP Zailanni Amit told reporters here today.
He said the man had to stop the rape attempt after the girl fought back and kicked him.
The girl then informed her mother about the incident before they lodged the police report, he said.
The suspect was arrested at a wood factory workers' quarters in Jalan Empawah last night and had been remanded until Oct 30 to facilitate further investigations under Section 14 (d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. — Bernama
