Two Geng 35 members charged with joining organised crime group

SUNGAI PETANI: Two men were charged in the sessions court here today with being members of the organised crime group known as "Geng 35" for the past two years.
S. Jagan, 23, and S. Ramachandran, 26, both former security guards, were charged with being members of the group in the district since early January 2015 to the end of September this year.
They were charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code (Act 574) which provides for an imprisonment of up to 20 years, if found guilty.
Both the accused nodded after the charge was read out before Judge Priscilla Hemalini Nadarajan.
However, no plea was recorded from them.
The accused were not allowed bail and the judge has set Oct 29 for mention, with the case to be brought to the Alor Star High Court.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor appeared for the prosecution, while the accused were unrepresented.
Jagan and Ramachandran were taken to the court at 9am today, accompanied by the state Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and serious crimes division (D9) officers.
