KUALA LUMPUR: It took police a mere 24 hours to nab a suspect who broke into a guest house in an affluent area along Jalan Semarak here.
Wangsa Maju district police chief Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the incident happened on Sunday when the robber broke into the guest house and escaped with items worth RM15,000.
"The house owner, a 58-year-old civil servant, realised that his house was robbed at 10am on Sunday.
"Following a police report that was lodged, the district forensics team was dispatched to the crime scene and they managed to retrieve 21 finger prints from the house," Mohamad Roy told reporters at the district police headquarters here yesterday.
Police managed to zero in on the suspect as the finger prints matched those in their database.
"Within hours, the main suspect, 22, was nabbed in Sungai Buloh and the stolen items namely cameras, shoes and miniature model cars were retrieved from his house," he added.
Upon interrogation, the suspect who has 17 criminal and drug records led police to detain two more suspects in their 20's at Sri Petaling and Setapak on Monday.
"We believe one of the suspects acted as the 'scout' for other targets in possible break-ins," he said.
The trio have been remanded until Oct 30 and the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house break-in.
