MIRI: Sarawak PAS commissioner Jofri Jaraiee, 50, suffered burns on his legs in a fire outbreak at his two-storey house in Kampung Luak Bay, here, at 1am today.
Jofri, who is receiving treatment at Miri Hospital, said he was injured while trying to save his father, Jaraiee Marhaban, in his 80's, who was trapped in his bedroom upstairs during the fire.
"I was downstairs at the time and when told by my wife that my father was trapped in his room, I ran upstairs and kicked open the door to save him," he told Bernama.
Jofri said his father was frail due to old age and now still being treated at the same hospital as he had inhaled a lot of smoke and had burn injuries.
"The fire has destroyed much of our house downstairs. The amount of losses is not known yet but the fire is believed to have started in one of the room upstairs," he said.

Jofri said in the meantime, his family would be staying in his younger sibling's house.
Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief, Law Poh Kiong said when the fire broke out, there were seven people including four children in the house.
He said only two people were injured in the incident and the cause of the fire was still being investigated. — Bernama
