SHAH ALAM: An investigating officer from the Sepang district police headquarters, ASP Wan Azirul Nizam Che Wan Aziz told the High Court, here, today, that Kim Jong-Nam had four passports all under the name of Kim Chol in his possession at the time of his death.
The ninth witness in the Kim Jong-Nam trial said he had made photocopies of the passports prior to handing it over to officials at the North Korean embassy.
Despite objections by the defence counsels on the admissibility of the photocopied copies of the passports, judge Datuk Azmi Ariffin ruled that the evidence was admissible as an exhibit, citing section 63, 65 and 74 of the Evidence Act 1950.
Wan Azirul Nizam also said there was insufficient evidence to arrest four individuals still at large over the assassination of Kim Jong Nam.
Based on his investigations, the four men had used nicknames and there was no other information about them.
"There are no details about their passports and contacts," he said adding that he had engaged the Special Branch in Bukit Aman and Interpol to determine their identities and whereabouts.
Azirul was replying to a question by deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin on why the four individuals were not arrested for Jong Nam's death.
Following today's airport visit, Wan Azirul Nizam who continued his testimony more than two weeks ago also confirmed a CCTV video showing second accused Doan Thi Huong, 29, was with one of the unidentified suspects named Mr Y.
During his previous testimony on Oct 12, Wan Azirul Nizam had revealed the names of the four unidentified suspects when he quizzed the first suspect Siti Aisyah, 25, following her arrest.
The ninth witness in the Kim Jong-Nam trial said Siti had identified them as "Mr James", "Mr Y", "Mr Chang", and "Hanamori @ Grandpa-Uncle".
He had told deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin that second suspect Doan Thi Huong also mentioned the same names to identify the four individuals when quizzed by him.
Wan Azirul Nizam also told the court that Jong-Nam's original passport bearing the name Kim-Chol was handed over to the North Korean embassy and that he was present when a copy of the passport was made by the police.
Siti and Doan along with four others still at large, were charged with the murder of Kim Chol, 45, at the KL International Airport 2 (klia2) departure hall at 9am on Feb 13 this year.
It was reported that Jong-nam was at klia2 on Feb 13 to board a flight to Macau when two women approached and suddenly wiped his face with toxic liquid which was later identified as the VX nerve agent.
Jong-nam, who travelled with a passport bearing the name of Kim Chol, died while on the way to the Putrajaya Hospital. He arrived in the country on Feb 6.
The murder charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
