PETALING JAYA: A cross-border industry academia research and entrepreneurship centre has been established in Subang Jaya to further promote the bilateral academic and industrial exchange between Malaysia and Taiwan.
The centre's chief executive officer, Kevin Peng, told theSun that the ultimate goal of the centre is to strengthen two-way academic exchange, while promoting physical academic cooperation between Taiwanese universities and Malaysian academic organisations.
"Through the center, academia and industries from both countries can exchange knowledge and information more easily without any constraints as there will be host of workshop and seminar or cross-field research projects being organised to assist industry collaboration for Taiwan and Malaysia.
"Additionally, the centre will also be assisting universities from both Malaysia and Taiwan in organising international internship programmes for those keen on conducting their internship abroad to get some wider exposure," Peng said, on the sidelines of the official launch of the centre, today.
As for long-term goals, Peng said the centre will serve as a base for bilateral cooperation in Malaysia, with plans to build relationships between experts and scholars in each country to further boost the talent and academic exchange.
When asked on which and how many Malaysian universities have come on board for the international internship programme, Peng said while only Sunway University and a few from Taiwan had agreed to collaborate with the centre, many others have voiced their interest for the programme; among them are Tunku Abdul Rahman University College and UCSI.
"Hopefully by next year, there will be more coming on board. We welcome participation from both national and private higher learning institutions as the aim of the centre is to build a new industry-academic platform with relevant universities and industry partner in Taiwan and Malaysia," he added.
Among those present at the launch were Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia representative James Chang Chi-ping, and Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) president Dr Samuel K. C. Chang.
Chang in his speech said the centre is supported and funded by the Taiwan Education Ministry via the Taiwan Connection programme and he believes the centre will play an important role as the bilateral exchanging platform for industry-academia.
"I am confident that through the support from all relevant stakeholders and individuals, the centre will excel and achieve remarkable results," Chang said.
