Johor police raided 550 online gambling sites since July

JOHOR BARU: Police have detained 140 individuals in raids on 550 online gambling premises in the state through the operations codenamed 'Op Dadu Khas' carried out since July until yesterday.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said besides the arrests, police also confiscated 271 computers believed to have been used for gambling.
"All the operations were conducted with 550 search warrants issued by the court for the operations. Police also had the cooperation of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) which cut off the electricity supply to 172 of the premises," he said in a statement here today.
Mohd Khalil said in total police detained 4,395 people in 806 raids on online gambling premises in the state from January until yesterday.
He added that police also seized 15,319 gambling machines and cash amounting to RM344,907 in these raids.
He added that of the 4,395 people who were detained, 336 had been charged in court.
"Op Dadu Khas was successful in crippling the illegal activities in the state. Police urge the public to continue providing information on the active gambling dens with gambling machines in their areas," he said. — Bernama
