GEORGE TOWN: A non-governmental organisation, Persatuan Anak Jati Pulau Pinang (Penang-Born Association) has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the landslide in Lengkok Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah which it claims involves corruption and abuse of power.
Its Deputy Chairman K. Praba said the Penang government had failed to abide by the guidelines set by the Department of Environment which prohibits any construction near quarry areas, which is located less than 100m from the project.
"The state government which seems to have ignored the law should also be investigated by the MACC and other authorities," he told reporters after lodging a report with the MACC here today.
Another committee member Tan Khai Beng also lambasted the state government under Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who had previously often questioned the DOE's approvals for development projects carried out by the federal government.
Tan said the state government which was supposed to adhere to the concept of competency, accountability and transparency (CAT) was no longer relevant to the people in the state and should be 'punished' in the coming general election for not making the voters who had trusted them, a priority.
Last Saturday, 11 people died in a landslide at the construction site of the 50-storey housing project.
