KUALA LUMPUR: PKR's Batu MP Tian Chua has been released from prison after serving a month-long jail term.
Tian Chua was greeted by supporters as he walked out of Kajang Prison at around 9am today.
"I am fine ... I am looking forward returning to prepare for the upcoming 14th General Election roadshow campaign and attending Parliament," he told theSun when contacted.
When asked if his imprisonment period will affect his current position as a Member of Parliament, he said, under the Federal Constitution, a Member of Parliament's position will only be in jeopardy, if he is imprisoned for one year or more, and fined more than RM2,000.
Commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's statement that the 2018 Budget will also benefit the Opposition, he replied: "We are serving the Rakyat and the budget should reflect on their needs, not the Opposition".
Tian Chua was jailed after he withdrew his appeal before the Court of Appeal on Sept 29.
This was in relation to a charge of refusing a police order to leave the restricted Police Training Centre (Pulapol) area following the Bersih 3 rally in 2012.
He had appealed against the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision to uphold the sessions' court sentence of one month's jail and a fine of RM1,000.
