JOHOR BARU: A 67-year-old man who works as a bus driver in Singapore, was cheated off close to RM350,000 after being convinced of the lure of riches offered by a woman.
Goh Kiok Kuai said he met the woman who identified herself as Lim, when he purchased a second-hand car for RM15,000 from her in Pandan, one year ago.
The victim paid the amount in cash without receiving any receipt.
Lim is alleged to have convinced the victim that he can sell his car at a higher price of around RM19,000, and persuaded him to join her in the business of selling second-hand cars.
She then proceeded to ask Lim for his two ATM cards on the pretext of doing business.
He said this at a press conference organised by Datuk Jason Teoh Sew Hock, MCA's Public Services and Complaints Department chairman for Johor, at the South Johor Chiness Press club here today.
Goh denied having any affair with the woman.
"We were close friends, not lovers," he said.
He made a police report on Aug 3, after having lost contact with Lim for two months.
Meanwhile, Jason advised everyone not to fall prey to these fraudsters, and urged people to speak to friends and family before venturing into any such businesses, to avoid getting conned.
