Asia Cup: Malaysia leading Singapore 7-0, fourth quarter continues tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The national women's hockey squad piled up a 7-0 lead against Singapore at the 2017 Women's Hockey Asia Cup before the last quarter of the match at Kawasaki Green Stadium in Kakamigahara, Japan was postponed to tomorrow.
According to a Malaysian Hockey Confederation statement, the match today was stopped following heavy rain in the country and the fourth quarter would be held at 1pm local time (12pm Malaysian time) tomorrow.
In the match today, Fatin Shafika Mohd Sukri opened the score for Malaysia in the 13th minute before Surizan Awang Noh struck two minutes later.
Strikers, Nuraslinda Said was on target in a penalty corner in the 19th minute while Hanis Nadia Onn made it 4-0 for Malaysia in the 25th minute.
Defender Nuraini Abdul Rashid converted a penalty corner in the 28th minute to give Malaysia a 5-0 lead at the end of the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Nuraslinda scored a field goal in the 33rd minute and Norbaini Hashim put Malaysia 7-0 ahead via a penalty corner in the 36th minute.
The goal advantage is a boost to Muhammad Dharma Raj's squad to complete the match in style tomorrow.
Nonetheless, the national squad will face a daunting task against India on Tuesday to gain an easier path in the quarter-finals as competition in the ninth edition uses a crossover format.
Malaysia lost 4-5 to China in the opening group A match on Saturday while India blasted Singapore 10-0.
The match between China and India was also postponed to tomorrow. — Bernama
