Hafizh finishes in a strong sixth in Sepang

SEPANG: Local hero Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah finished a strong sixth in the Moto2 race of the 2017 Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) at Sepang International Circuit, here today.
The Petronas Raceline Malaysia rider who started from 11th on the grid, put up a consistent performance to finish the race in a time of 40 minutes 52.365 seconds.
With the sixth placing, the 23-year-old rider scored 10 points, bringing his total to 96 points, which makes him the 11th best in the world.
However, another Malaysian hope, Khairul Idham Pawi of Idemitsu Honda Team Asia, failed to finish the race when he fell from his machine early in the race.
Today's Moto2 race was won by Portuguese Miguel Oliveira of Red Bull KTM Ajo with a time of 40:28.955s followed by teammate, Brad Binder of South Africa, while third place went to Franco Morbidelli of EG 0, 0 Marc VDS.
Italian Morbidelli was crowned as the 2017 Moto2 champion after amassing 288 points, 45 points more than his nearest rival, Swiss Thomas Luthi of CarXpert Interwetten, who was unable to race due to health problems. — Bernama
