BENTONG: The alumni associations of Universiti Teknologi Mara's (UiTM) main campus and branch campuses across the country will come under one umbrella body next year.
The university's deputy vice-chancellor, Industry Community Alumni Entrepreneurship Network (ICAEN), Prof Dr Zaini Abdullah said the move would involve the main campus in Shah Alam and 13 branch campuses in the states forming a federation of UiTM alumni.
"Through discussions with the various UiTM alumni associations, we agreed to combine and form a federation," he told Bernama after opening the Perlis UiTM Alumni Association's seventh annual general meeting in Janda Baik, here.
Zaini said among the objectives of coming together under a federation was to enable the alumni to contribute their energy and services for the development of UiTM in terms of funds and expertise.
He said ICAEN was now updating the alumni data with the official records from 2006 until now which showed 320,000 alumni members compared to about 700,000 graduates of the university, the history of which began in 1956.

Meanwhile, Perlis UiTM Alumni Association president, Ahmad Shamsul Baharin Mohd Hanafiah said the association would continue with its social responsibility work by contributing RM10,000 to outstanding graduates from poor family background at the university's convocation ceremony this Nov 3.
He also called on the alumni members to give back to the university by helping it achieve excellence as targeted.
"I believe there are many Perlis UiTM alumni out there who have achieved success and can contribute something to the university based on their expertise, including providing industrial training to enable the students to explore employment opportunities," he said. — Bernama
