PETALING JAYA: A downpour today afternoon in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur caused some parts of the city to experience flash floods which led to massive traffic jams.
Murky water covered three lanes of the Federal Highway between Mid Valley City and the Sprint Highway Kerinchi exit, causing congestion as road users could only use one lane.
Photos of the flood and the jam were shared on social media.
The Bukit Jalil Highway near Alam Sutera was also flooded, causing delays on both sides of the road between Bukit Jalil Nursery and Kinrara.
"It happened so fast although I expected the waters to rise as it was raining heavily," said S. Alagappa who was among thousands of motorists caught in the jam.
Flash floods near the Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) MRT station along Jalan Damansara also slowed traffic to a crawl.
A video was posted on the Info Roadblock JPJ/Polis Facebook page, showing a stretch of Persiaran Saujana Impian near Giant Hypermarket in Prima Saujana, Kajang (heading towards the Lekas Highway) completely inundated with muddy floodwaters.
The video showed that the underpass was largely inaccessible to vehicles due to the flash floods.
