BESUT: The offer of 15% to 20% for payment of loans to the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) as announced in Budget 2018 has received positive reaction from borrowers here.
The offer prompted former Politeknik Kota Baru student Mohd Afez A Rahman from Kampung Kayu Kelat, Jertih, to make full payment of his loan made in 2013 at PTPTN Besut branch in Jertih, today.
"I am grateful to be able to pay the loan balance with PTPTN which before discount amounted to RM5,986.47.
"I did not expect the officer at PTPTN Besut branch to say that I was entitled to a discount of 20% when calling to check on my loan balance," he told Bernama here, today.
The holder of Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering said he then went to Bank Simpanan Nasional to withdraw his savings to pay the loan balance of RM4,789.18 after the 20% discount.
Mohd Afez, an employee of a vehicle service centre in Jertih, thanked the government for providing the discount adding the 20% discount of RM1197.29 from PTPTN would be kept for future use.
Meanwhile, Besut PTPTN senior branch manager Yusniwati Yusof said Mohd Afez was the first borrower to make the payment since the budget announcement on the discount last Friday.
She received numerous calls from borrowers who were keen to grab the 20% discount and promised to settle the loan by making a lump sum payment. — Bernama
