BANGI: Come year-end, the National Institute Of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) will publish a guide book on occupational safety and health, specifically for tahfiz schools (OSH For Tahfiz), for reference by the tahfiz institution management.
Nisoh chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye (pix) said the initiative for the publication of the book which would be distributed free came about after a Niosh team discovered tahfiz schools had very low awareness and knowledge on the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
"Niosh no longer wants parents to lose children, students losing classmates and tahfiz schools losing students who stand to become leaders in the future, only because safety measures are not taken," he told reporters after launching a state-level Occupational Safety and Health Seminar for Tahfiz School 2017 at the Niosh headquarters here today.
The one-day seminar, attended by representatives of 89 tahfiz institutions in Selangor, was aimed at disseminating information and boosting awareness on safety and health to reduce accidents at work places, specifically tahfiz schools.
In his opening speech, Lee said the guidebook, OSH For Tahfiz was made based on a similar guidebook, namely, OSH in Schools which was published by Niosh, with the co-operation of the Education Ministry since 2015.
"But OSH For Tahfiz will have some amendments to suit the condition of tahfiz schools," he said, adding the occupational safety and health seminar for tahfiz schools would also be expanded to other states in stages. — Bernama
