YAN: A fishing boat carrying seven anglers went missing in the waters of Pulau Bunting, Yan, this morning.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director of Operations at the Kuala Kedah Base, Lieutenant (Maritime) Hairil Izhar Nor Azmi said so far two victims had been identified as the skipper Kharulanuar Arsad, 39, and Mohamad Ramli, 57, from Kulim.
"The boat left Kuala Sala Jetty at 6am yesterday. They should have returned to the jetty by 7pm yesterday and when they failed to arrive, a next-of-kin of one of the victim's contacted the MMEA operations room at 5.50am today," he told Bernama.
Following the report, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated.
Meanwhile, Kharulanuar's wife, Zuroltulain Ishak, 33, said she was informed about the incident by his husband's friend who asked for his identity card copy from her mother-in-law.
"I was not at home at that time. After being told about the incident I tried to contact my husband but my calls went to the voice mailbox," she said.
She hoped her husband and friends would return home safely. — Bernama
