KUALA LUMPUR: It is important for Malaysian workers to strike a work-life balance as they are preparing to move into an increased work-paced life in a digital age, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim (pix).
She said it was crucial for everyone to pull away from work and take on effective time management of tasks and put aside time for their loved ones at home.
"Without work-life balance in a family, children are deprived of quality family time and the already distracted youth of today will end up to become adults without proper guidance by their parents who are too busy at work," she said when opening the inaugural International Work-Life Balance Forum here today.
He speech text was read by the Director General of Women Development, Datuk Yatimah Sarjiman.
Rohani said, working women, need to embrace work-life balance because there were many tasks across work and the home for women to juggle with, from being a working individual at the office to being mother and wife at home.
"Whether one chooses to embrace it or not, it is inevitable. We need to organise ourselves to participate in and make plans for work-life balance," she said.
Rohani cited a study conducted by Hays Salary Guide 2017 which found that 40% of the employees in Malaysia stayed on with their existing companies because of work-life balance.
"In many of these companies, the employees, without them realising it, find that work-life balance is the main reason why they stay on," she said adding that wages did not determine the employees' long-term stay.
The one day forum was attended by some 300 participants. — Bernama
