KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar this morning, on mild support for the local note and in line with most regional currencies.
At 9.01am, the local unit was traded at 4.2310/2350 versus the greenback from 4.2360/2390 at the close yesterday.
A dealer said investors turned cautious on the greenback after United States President Donald Trump's former campaign manager was charged with money laundering, coupled with the possibility of Trump picking Federal Reserve Governor Jerome Powell as the next head of the US central bank.
"This, in turn, helped Asian currencies appear more favourable to investors," he added.
Against a basket of major currencies, the ringgit was traded mostly lower, except with the euro which rose to 4.9270/9321 from 4.9290/9342 yesterday.
Against the Singapore dollar, the local note fell to 3.1078/1117 from 3.1069/1101, it declined to 3.7396/7435 from 3.7282/7312 versus the yen and was lower at 5.5845/5902 from 5.5750/5798 when compared with the British pound. — Bernama
