SANDAKAN: The allocation of RM1 billion to upgrade dilapidated schools in the state as announced in the Budget 2018 is evidence of the federal government's continuous commitment towards Sabah, said Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.
He said effort to upgrade the schools was aimed at providing a more comfortable and conducive learning and teaching environment for the students and the teachers.
"The federal government has listened to our requests and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has announced a huge allocation to repair and upgrade run-down schools in the state through the 2018 budget," he said at the Sabah Education Department's Orang Asli and Peribumi Adult Class (Kedap) Convocation Ceremony here, today.
A total of 324 adult learners from 12 schools in the state received their certificates at the ceremony.
Musa said the implementation of Kedap was a step taken by the government to provide opportunities for adults who never attended school to learn the basics of reading, writing and counting (3M), in line with the lifelong learning concept.
Through this concept, the government also provides allowances to students, including for the loss of income while attending classes, he added.
