Eight illegals nabbed, logs seized in raid

KUCHING: Marine police with the cooperation of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) detained eight illegals and seized 736 timber logs of various sizes at a logging camp in Kampung Bekakong, Daro in the Mukah Division, around noon yesterday.
Sarawak Region Five Marine Police Force commander, ACP Salehuddin Mat Saman said five of the foreigners were found to have overstayed in this country while three had no personal identification documents at all.
He said all the illegals, aged 22 to 38 years, were then handed over to the Bintangor police station for further investigation.
"Besides the logs worth about RM81,000, also seized were a chainsaw and three bicycles which had been modified to carry the logs," he said in a statement, here, today.
Meanwhile, SFC in a statement said the camp was believed to be carrying out illegal logging as no licence had been issued for any logging activity in that area and all its workers were illegal immigrants.
It said all the logs seized would be handed over to the Forestry Department for further action. — Bernama
