PETALING JAYA: Two masked men armed with machetes robbed a jewellery shop inside a supermarket today and made off with RM1.1 million worth of jewellery.
The men stormed into the shop in Kota Damansara here at around 10am, just when staff had opened its shutters for business, and escaped with their loot in under 6 minutes.
Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said that at the time of the robbery, there were four staff working, including a security guard who was armed with a gun.
"The suspect charged towards the security personnel and took his weapon from him," he said.
Mohd Zani added that while one suspect was disarming the guard, the other suspect was helping himself to the jewellery.
"The other suspect was at the display case and made off with seven trays of jewellery and gold," he said.
He said that the suspects then made their escape in a white Nissan Almera.
Police are trying to identify the suspects and also view CCTV footage from the area to help in the investigation.
