M'sia owes success to contributions of academicians

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia's success in the field of education can be attributed to the contributions of scholars who created the base to enable new ideas, discoveries and innovations to exist and flourish in a dynamic ecosystem.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said academicians would also a major role in harnessing the 4.0 industry to build higher values in the daily life of the people in future.
"In this regard, academicians should continue to play their roles and influence the direction of the nation," he said in his speech at the 2017 National Academic Awards (AAN) here yesterday.
Also present were Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Mary Yap Kain Ching and Higher Education director-general Datin Paduka Ir Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir.
The 2017 National Academics Awards (AAN) named Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Kim of Universiti Malaya (UM) as the recipient of the 10th National Academic Figure.
Distinguished Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Kamal Hassan of Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) and Prof Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) were honoured as the 11th recipients.
AAN, the government's highest recognition for scholars who honoured country in various fields entered its 11th edition this year with the combined awards for 2017 and 2016 as AAN 2016 was not held last year. — Bernama
