PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the party is confident of doubling its tally of parliamentary seats to 14 in the 14th general election as "votes are returning to the MCA".
"We've seen MCA's capability; in the last three and a half years, MCA has produced results.
"We understand the Chinese community's sentiments, which we must manage well.
"I've told the prime minister that Barisan Nasional needs to look after all the ethnic groups and address their sentiments. I am confident that with our capability, the number of our seats will double in GE14," Liow was quoted as saying in a report in China Press today.
Liow, who is transport minister, said this at a media conference at the end of the MCA annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
He said the high morale among party members was not for show during the AGM.
"The party will ensure that all members face GE14 with high morale, for the party to wrest back seats lost to the Opposition," he said, adding MCA will let the rakyat witness its unity as well as feel its sincerity and well intention.
Asked if he has any data to show that enough Chinese support is returning to the party to enable it to win more seats, Liow said the party has been conducting surveys, based on which MCA is confident votes from all works of life are returning to the party, including the younger generation.
"MCA has been conveying the correct message to young voters, who will constitute the majority in the coming polls.
"MCA is not only working to win their (young voters') support but also the backing of voters from all strata of society," he said.
