SHAH ALAM: Of the 39 teachings and practices which have been identified as deviant and prohibited in Selangor, 19 teachings are still active, the Selangor State Assembly sitting was told today.
State Islamic Affairs, Malay Customs and Heritage, Rural and Traditional Village Development Committee chairman Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said three of the 19 deviant teachings were capable of disrupting public order and harmful to the country.
"The three teachings are Shiites beliefs that can cause disunity among Muslims as they reject the Sunnah Wal Jamaah Sunnah principles, as well as the teachings of Millah Abraham because it is creating an Islamic state in the region and inciting followers to do whatever it takes to achieve their objectives despite going against society norms.
"In addition, the Daesh militants are also a threat to public order as their ideology promotes violence and they recruit members to participate in violence," he said.
He said this in reply to Khasim Abdul Aziz (PAS-Lembah Jaya) who questioned on deviant teachings which were still active and a threat to public order in Selangor.
Earlier, Dr Ahmad Yunus (PAS-Sijangkang) told the assembly that among the deviant teachings identified in Selangor were the anti-Hadith, Shia Muslim, Samaniah tarekat, Millah Abraham, Al-Arqam, Aurat Islamiah Mahmud Haji Abdul Rahman, liberal-leaning and Ilmu Makrifat Kenali Diri groups.
He said this year 246 followers of teachings, which have been ruled as deviant by the Selangor Religious Affairs Department (JAIS) were arrested, while 31 were arrested in 2016 and 75 in 2015.
Ahmad Yunus added that wiping out deviant teachings was difficult and would take a long time as it required continuous cooperation from all parties. — Bernama
